Keratoconus & Lasik Xtra

What is keratoconus?

It is a disease of cornea that causes a progressive thinning of cornea and decrease of eye sight due to increase in eye myopia and irregular astigmatism.

Etiology: genetically weak corneas and due to constant rubbing of eyes due to eye allergy.

Treatment: Early stages glasses. mild cases are treated with Rigid gas permeable contact lenses or hybrid lenses.

Moderately severe cases: requires Collagen cross linkage (treating the eyes with Riboflavin eye drops and exposing it to UV light) and INTACS (femtosecong guided insertion of PMMA ring into the cornea) to support the cornea and correct the vision.

In stable keratoconus: Toric ICL can be implanted.

In advanced keratoconus: DALK (deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty) corneal transplant or PKP complete corneal transplant can be done.
